DuPage Theatre
109 S. Main Street

One of the most famous landmarks in Lombard is the DuPage Theatre. It opened on July 26, 1928.  Before this, the only movie theatre in town showed silent movies.  The first movie shown at the DuPage was "The Yellow Lady."  The theatre cost $300, 000 to build and it could hold 1,400 people. Inside, the theatre was decorated with gold pillars and the ceiling looked like floating
clouds with stars that lit up in the dark.

In addition to  the movie theatre, the building also had many shops such as a candy store, a shoe store, and a hat shop.  The theatre closed in the 1990's, but
there are plans to restore it.
