Sheldon Peck House
355 E. Parkside Avenue

This house is famous for two reasons.  First, it is the oldest house in Lombard.  Also, it was the home of a famous artist, Sheldon Peck. Sheldon Peck was an artist and a farmer. He was born in 1797 in Vermont, and moved to Lombard in 1837.  At that time, Lombard was called Babcock's Grove.  Peck and his family built
this small farmhouse at the corner of Grace and Parkside in 1839.

The Sheldon Peck House was also part of the Underground Railroad.  It was a "station " or hiding place for escaped slaves on
their trip north to Canada and freedom.

Sheldon Peck died in 1868. The Peck family owned the house until 1996. Then the house was donated to the Lombard Historical Society. The Historical Society has turned the house into a
museum.   People may visit the home on Saturdays from 1-4 pm.
