RULES TO REMEMBER WHEN DOING RESEARCH
1.
Understand the assignment:
When
is the assignment due? (date)
How
long is the assignment? (number of pages)
What
type of information is required? (general or specific)
How
many resources are needed? (# of books, mags., etc..)
Are
there resources you may or may not use?
2.
When you find information you can use from a book:
Write
down the name of the book.
Write
down the name of the author.
Write
down the page or page numbers where you found the information.
3.
Now you will be able to find your information easily when:
Need
to recheck any of your facts, or spelling.
Show
a teacher where you found your information.
Find
that source of information again if you need it.
Create
a bibliography of sources.
4.
Many books contain things that make it easier to find information.
TABLE OF CONTENTS:
The table of contents is found near the front of the book. It tells
you the names of the chapters, and the page where each chapter begins.
This will let you know if the book has any information that you can
use and help you to find it quickly.
INDEX: The
index is located at the back of the book. It is an alphabetical list
of names, places, or topics that are found in a book. It gives you the
page number or the place where they can be found. The index can be very
helpful when you are looking for a hard to find topic or a specific
thing in a table of contents.
GLOSSARY:
The glossary is like a mini-dictionary just for that book and is usually
found at the end. It gives the meaning of special or difficult words
that are found in the book, and sometimes the pronunciation.
